Sun revs its data center efficiency message
Sun Microsystems, which was the first major server company to qualify for utility company rebates for the energy efficiency of its technology, has upped the data center server ante with two new models in its CMT SPARC Enterprise server line. The two new systems, the T5140 and the T5240, are the first servers to use the new Fujitsu UltraSPARC T2 Plus processor. The systems, which were designed to fit into the same chassis as previous generations, are designed to offer from 16 to 32 times the compute density of rival x86 offerings, according to Sun's marketing materials.
